Winnipeg, MB - At 12:43 a.m. on July 22, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to fire in a large commercial and industrial building at 274 Jarvis Ave. After approximately 32 hours fighting the fire, demolishing the building, and extinguishing hotspots, WFPS crews were able to clear the scene.
WFPS crews have put a fire watch in place and will return to the scene every two hours to investigate for, and extinguish any hotspots that flare up.
The control of the scene has been turned over to the building owners’ private insurance company. They will now be responsible for scene safety and cleaning up the site.
The cause of this fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
The WFPS thanks all residents in the area for their patience as crews worked to put out the fire and ensure the safety of all those in the vicinity.
We also thank employees in various civic departments who provided assistance over the past two days, as well as our partner agencies, including Manitoba Hydro, the Province of Manitoba’s department of Sustainable Development, the Manitoba Emergency Measures Organization (EMO), and the Salvation Army.
