Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Balmoral Street Fire

Released: February 1, 2019 at 8:29 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:53 p.m. on January 31, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey residence in the 500 block of Balmoral Street. Once on scene crews launched an interior, offensive attack. Initial reports indicated one individual may be trapped in the building but searches by crews verified that all occupants had safely evacuated. The fire was knocked down by 10:23 p.m.

All seven residents had evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was dispatched to the scene to provide resources to all displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

The WFPS reminds residents of the importance of having a home escape plan for emergencies. It is also important to establish a meeting place where all household members will meet in the event of an evacuation. This ensures all members of a household can be accounted for.
