Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Burrows Avenue and Wellington Crescent Fires

Burrows Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:26 p.m. on January 9, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a single family bungalow in the 500 block of Burrows Avenue. Upon arrival, crews launched an interior, offensive attack, quickly bringing the fire under control by 9:54 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire will be under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.

Wellington Crescent Fire

As reported yesterday, at 9:38 a.m. on January 9, 2019, WFPS crews responded to a fire alarm in a single family residence in the 800 block of Wellington Crescent. Upon arrival, crews found a working fire in the basement of the home.

Crews remained on scene until nearly 11 p.m. last night extinguishing hotspots with the aid of heavy machinery. Crews were called back to the scene at approximately 1:10 a.m. this morning to extinguish a small flare up in the rubble.

The property will remain under a fire watch for approximately the next 48 hours, with crews routinely checking in on it, with the use of thermal imaging cameras to detect any additional hot spots.

The cause of this fire will be under investigation for some time and no damage estimates are currently available.
