Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Crews battle three overnight fires

Burrows Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB - At 1:33 a.m. on December 24, 2018, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of fire in a single-storey residence in the 700 block of Burrows Avenue. Upon arrival, crews mounted an offensive attack and the fire was declared extinguished at 2:03 a.m. Extensive smoke, fire and water damage were noted.

There were no occupants in the home at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time. No injuries were reported.

Redwood Avenue Fire

At 1:55 a.m. on December 24, 2018, WFPS crews responded to reports of fire in a residential duplex in 500 block of Redwood Avenue. Upon arrival, crews found a well-involved fire with visible flames seen through the windows. An offensive attack was mounted and the fire was declared out at 3:16 a.m. The structure suffered extensive smoke, fire and water damage.

Occupants of the suites had evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.

Greene Avenue Fire

At 3:18 a.m. on December 24, 2018, WFPS crews responded to reports of another house fire in a 400 block of Greene Avenue. This time, crews found a fully-involved fire in a single-storey wood frame home and mounted an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 4:06 a.m. but crews remained on scene for some time overhauling the structure, opening up walls and the roof to ensure all hot spots were extinguished. Extensive damage to the interior and exterior of the house was noted.

The lone occupant of the home had evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. They were treated by paramedics on scene for smoke inhalation and transported to hospital in stable condition. No additional injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.
