Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service update: King Edward Street Gas Leak

Released: December 7, 2018 at 12:42 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:21 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2018, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a gas leak near the intersection of King Edward Street and Logan Avenue. Once on scene it was determined that a construction contractor ruptured a three quarter inch gas line.

WFPS are working under a unified command structure with the gas company to ensure the safety of citizens and all workers. It is believed the gas is safely venting into the atmosphere but out of an abundance of caution, crews are checking surrounding homes, businesses and sewer lines to ensure safe conditions. No evacuations have taken place at this time.

Manitoba Hydro is working to repair the damaged lines. At this point however there is no timeline on when they may be completed.

Traffic along King Edward Street between Notre Dame Avenue and Logan Avenue is closed and is expected to remain closed until repairs are completed.
