Winnipeg, MB – At 6:05 a.m. on Monday, August 27, 2018, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a report of a fire at a seven-story apartment building on Mayfair Place. Upon arrival, crews found a working fire. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on the scene, due to the potential for high life hazards when dealing with an occupied apartment block.
The fire was confined to one suite. The occupant of that suite was brought to safety by crews and transported to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported. The majority of building residents will be able to return to their homes later this morning once ventilation of the building is completed.
Traffic on River Avenue is now open to regular traffic.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.
