Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) is celebrating Paramedic Services Week, May 22 to 27, by participating in a variety of community and educational activities to help provide more information about the variety of paramedical services provided.
“I am incredibly proud of the dedication of our paramedics in providing quality medical care for residents,” said John Lane, Chief of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service. “Our paramedics serve Winnipeggers in a wide variety of ways. Whether doing front-line work aboard ambulances, fire trucks, and supervisor vehicles, working in community settings or our communications centre, or involved in research and administrative leadership roles, our paramedics work tirelessly to help those in need in our community.”
The WFPS currently has 730 licensed paramedics on staff who provide residents with emergency medical services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Tuesday, May 22
What: Paramedics will attend Norquay Elementary School for the official Paramedic Services Week kickoff event.
Where: Norquay Elementary School, 132 Lusted Ave.
When: 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
WFPS members will interact with students, staff, and parents at Norquay Elementary School. A variety of operational equipment and vehicles will be on display, in addition to educational materials. Students will have an opportunity to take part in a ‘What does a paramedic mean to you’ contest.
Wednesday, May 23
What: Celebration of Life Awards Ceremony
Where: Metropolitan Entertainment Centre, 281 Donald St.
When: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
WFPS will be highlighting three emergency incidents at this year’s awards luncheon. They are incredible stories of bravery, perseverance and recovery.
Friday, May 25
What: Paramedic Services Week - Children's Day at the Zoo
Where: Assiniboine Park Zoo
When: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
In partnership with the Assiniboine Park Zoo, WFPS will host 200 students from Norquay Elementary School at Emergency Services Children's Day. A variety of vehicles and equipment will be on display for all zoo attendees to see.
Sunday, May 27
What: Paramedics will attend the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba Teddy Bears’ Picnic
Where: Assiniboine Park
When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
WFPS will have a variety of vehicles and equipment on site for the public of all ages to learn more about. Additionally, paramedics will tend to all sick and injured teddy bears.
