Public invited to information session on the Yellow Ribbon Greenway Extension to St. Matthews Avenue

Released: February 22, 2018 at 2:20 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeggers are invited to attend a public information session on how the City of Winnipeg proposes to close the gap in the active transportation network to connect the Yellow Ribbon Greenway and protected bike lanes under construction on St. Matthews Avenue. Residents will have the opportunity to view the design concept and safety features, talk with the project team members and provide comment on the project.

The Yellow Ribbon Greenway is an off-road pedestrian and cycling path that connects the Sturgeon Creek Greenway to Silver Avenue. Buffered bike lanes are being constructed on St. Mathews Avenue between Century Street and Ferry Road. By closing the gap near St. James Memorial Sports Park, Winnipeggers will have a continuous cycling connection from Sturgeon Creek to the Downtown.

Construction on the St. Matthews Avenue Protected Bike Lanes began in August 2017 and construction completion is anticipated in summer 2018. Construction of a new bike lane on the east side of St. James Memorial Sports Park is expected to take place in summer 2018.
