Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is inviting members of the public to come in and warm up in civic facilities during operating hours as extremely cold temperatures continue.

City facilities that can provide a comfortable place to warm-up include City Hall, Winnipeg Public Libraries, swimming pools, and Leisure Centres.

For operating hours at City facilities during the holiday season, please check City of Winnipeg - Holiday Hours or contact 311, open 24 hours every day, by phone at 311 or by email at .

If a member of the public sees a person who appears to be in need of assistance or is injured due to extreme cold, they should contact 911 immediately to report the person’s location and condition, and remain with the patient until emergency crews arrive.

Here are some winter safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Older adults and very young children should avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.
  • Check on older friends, relatives and neighbours who live alone.
  • Recognize the symptoms of hypothermia: confusion, dizziness, exhaustion and severe shivering. If these symptoms are present, seek immediate medical attention. Severe hypothermia can be life threatening.
