Winnipeg, MB - At an event this morning, City Councillor Mike Pagtakhan and representatives from the Tyndall Park Community Centre joined the community to unveil a new mural at the Tyndall Park Community Centre.
“The new mural is a visual celebration of community and the many activities that take place at Tyndall Park Community Centre,” said Mike Pagtakhan, City Councillor for Point Douglas. “I am pleased that the City contributed to the beautification of the Tyndall Park area. The idea for the mural and what it depicts came from the community centre itself, and is a great way to welcome the community through its doors.”
In spring of this year, Councillor Pagtakhan hosted a public engagement event at the community centre for Tyndall Park residents to discuss and contribute their ideas for the new mural. The community voted on a number of options and local artist Maesie Santos to complete the mural. The piece is 14 feet wide by eight feet high and was done on 8 sheets of plywood. The piece now proudly hangs on the wall of the community centre.
Located at 2255 King Edward Street, Tyndall Park Community Centre is a hub of activity within the community, offering a range of programming including Punjabi dance classes, Zumba, baseball, basketball, hockey, and soccer. The mural was jointly funded by the City of Winnipeg and the Tyndall Park Community Centre for a total project cost of $7,000.
