Winnipeg, MB – At an event this afternoon, Councillor Janice Lukes and members of the community celebrated pathway improvements and other upgrades to Kirkbridge Park.
“Kirkbridge Park is a very popular greenspace, one that is used frequently for a wide range of activities such as walking, soccer and baseball,” said Janice Lukes, Councillor for South Winnipeg – St. Norbert. “The new park enhancements will help to improve accessibility for residents and visitors who wish to pursue an active and healthy lifestyle in the neighbourhood.”
Kirkbridge Park is a community park which now boasts 3,400 square metres of new and repaired asphalt pathways to enhance accessibility with distance marker signage, and new park benches, in addition to existing playground structures and athletic fields. Work on a new picnic shelter, and the planting of new trees is scheduled to occur in spring 2018.
Construction on the upgrades began in early summer of 2017, funded by the City of Winnipeg’s Parks and Recreation Enhancement Program. The total project cost at completion is projected to be $307,000.
