Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service celebrates Paramedic Services Week

Winnipeg, MB - Paramedic Services Week 2017 is being held across Canada from May 28 to June 3. The week-long awareness week will help inform citizens about the variety of paramedical services provided by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS). To celebrate the week, the department’s paramedics will participate in a variety of community and educational activities starting on May 23.

The WFPS currently has 727 licensed paramedics on staff who provide citizens with emergency medical services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Tuesday, May 23
What: Paramedics will attend River Elm School for the official Paramedic Services Week kickoff event.
Where: River Elm School, 500 Riverton Avenue
When: 9:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
WFPS members will interact with students at River Elm School as well as provide a variety of interactive, educational displays about emergency health care and emergency response.

Friday, May 26
What: Paramedic Services Week - Children's Day at the Zoo
Where: Assiniboine Park Zoo
When: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
WFPS in partnership with the Assiniboine Park Zoo will host River Elm School at Emergency Services Children's Day which will highlight health and safety messages as well as the importance of physical activity and nutrition.

Saturday, May 27
What: Centennial Community Improvement Association Clean-Up
Where: 349 Ross Avenue
When: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
WFPS will assist the Centennial Community Improvement Association with their community clean-up day. Uniformed WFPS volunteers will assist with general clean-up, proper disposal of discarded needles and engage with community members.

Sunday, May 28
What: Paramedics will attend the Children’s Hospital Foundation Teddy Bears’ Picnic
Where: Assiniboine Park
When: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
WFPS will have an ambulance, the Major Incident Response Vehicle (MIRV), PACER team (bike paramedics) and representatives from 911 communications on site for the public to engage with. Additionally, the fire safety house will be set up for children to tour and paramedics will to tend to all sick and injured teddy bears.
