Pacific Avenue location provides Winnipeggers with convenient access to recycling a wide variety of materials

Winnipeg, MB - Beginning today, the Pacific Avenue 4R Winnipeg Depot is open for business and residents can drop off items that can be recycled, reused, composted, or resold. The facility is located at 1120 Pacific Avenue, between McPhillips Street and Weston Street, and is the second 4R Winnipeg Depot to open in the city.

There is no cost to customers using either of the 4R Winnipeg Depots, as long as all of the materials dropped off are recyclable. Garbage is not accepted at the Pacific Avenue 4R Winnipeg Depot, but is accepted at the Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot location and is subject to tipping fees.

“The City’s first 4R Winnipeg Depot, located at the Brady Road Resource Management Facility, has helped divert nearly 4,000 tonnes of material since opening in early 2016,” said Brian Mayes, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Water and Waste, Riverbank Management and the Environment. “With the opening of the Pacific Avenue 4R Winnipeg Depot, residents will have even more access to reduce, reuse, and recycle. This second 4R Depot builds on the success of the program to date and is an important part of the City’s Garbage and Recycling Master Plan.”

“Having the second 4R Winnipeg Depot located within Point Douglas provides area residents and all Winnipeggers, with a fast and convenient option for safely dropping off household hazardous waste materials in addition to their recyclables,” said Mike Pagtakhan, City Councillor for Point Douglas.

Residents will be able to drop off the following materials, free of charge, at both 4R Winnipeg Depot locations:

  • scrap metal
  • large appliances
  • bicycles
  • large plastic items
  • clean timber, lumber and wood
  • ceramics and porcelain
  • rubble and masonry
  • clean fill
  • tree wood waste
  • leaf and yard waste
  • recyclables accepted in the curbside program
  • electronic waste such as televisions, computers and cell phones
  • household hazardous waste including household cleaners, paint and propane tanks
  • batteries
  • motor oil, filters, and containers
  • tires

To help make drop-off easier and faster, residents are encouraged to review vehicle packing tips in advance of travelling to a 4R Winnipeg Depot. Packing tips are available at City of Winnipeg - Packing tips.

4R Winnipeg Depot Background

The Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot, located at the Brady Road Resource Management Facility (Brady Road Landfill, 1901 Brady Road), opened in February 2016 and was the first of its kind in Winnipeg.

As of December 31, 2016, the Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot has seen 74,929 vehicles enter the facility and helped divert 3,988 tonnes of material.

4R Winnipeg Depots are an important part of Winnipeg’s Garbage and Recycling Master Plan by giving residents more ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

The plan calls for up to four 4R Winnipeg Depots to be constructed. Winnipeg’s third depot will be built at 429 Panet Road (at Mission St) and is expected to open in late 2017. It has yet to be determined if a fourth depot will be required.
