Winnipeg, MB - At an event today, Councillor Brian Mayes officially celebrated the reopening of the newly renovated St. Vital Outdoor Pool. The pool will open to the public on Thursday, June 30, 2016, and will offer free admission from Thursday, June 30 to Sunday, July 3 to welcome the public to the renovated facility.
“This is a great day for St Vital! My parents brought me to this pool almost 50 years ago, and with these modernizations St. Vital families will be able to come here for many more years,” said Brian Mayes, City Councillor for St. Vital. “I thank my two predecessors, former Councillors Golden and Steeves, for fighting against the closure of this pool, making this day possible.”
The St. Vital Outdoor Pool, located at 5 rue des Meurons, has received a number of new amenities and features including a beach entry, heated water, eight new splash features, new pathways, pool decking, fencing and landscaping, a redeveloped playground with a new play structure and sings, and new bike racks and improved connectivity to the Fermor Avenue Active Transportation pathway. The new building features change areas with accessible change rooms and a new office area.
The renovation project was completed on-budget at $3 million with funds allocated from the City of Winnipeg 2012 Capital Budget, plus $150,000 in funding from the Parks and Recreation Enhancement Program for the new on-site playground as directed by Councillor Mayes.
