Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg's Pedestrian and Cycling Strategies has won a national award for planning excellence from the Canadian Institute of Planners in the Sustainable Mobility, Transportation, and Infrastructure Category. The Canadian Institute of Planners recognizes planning projects for their excellence, innovation, impact on the profession, implementation potential and overall presentation.
Approved by Council in July 2015, the Pedestrian and Cycling Strategies is a long-term framework for active modes of transportation in Winnipeg over the next 20 years. The Strategies are intended to encourage walking and cycling as attractive, convenient and accessible transportation choices for people of all ages and abilities in Winnipeg. Following consultation in 2013 with more than 3,000 Winnipeggers, the Strategies assist in the prioritization of active transportation infrastructure projects city-wide.
