St. Matthews Avenue and Berry Street closed due to water main break

Released: March 1, 2016 at 12:52 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Two roads are temporarily closed while crews clean up water from a large water main break:

  • St. Matthews Avenue between Berry Street and King Edward Street
  • Berry Street between St. Matthews Avenue and Silver Avenue

Lanes of traffic will be opened today as the water is cleaned up. Crews are working as quickly as possible to repair the water main, sand and scrape the streets and open the streets to traffic.

While the water main is repaired this afternoon, the eastbound lanes of St. Matthews Avenue will be closed between Roseberry Street and Parkview Street.

One commercial customer is without water because of the water main break. A water tank is being delivered this customer.

Area residents may notice discoloured water as a result of this water main break. Residents that notice their water is discoloured should:

  • Turn on a cold water tap and let the water run for a few minutes. It is best to use a bathtub tap as there is no screen to trap any sediment.
  • Catch some water in a light-coloured cup. If the water isn't clear, turn off the tap, wait 30 minutes and try again. Discoloured water usually doesn't last long. If the water still isn't clear after waiting two to three hours, contact 311, open 24 hours every day.
