Try Transit by riding On-Request

On-request Winnipeg Transit bus

Did you know many areas of Winnipeg have access to on-demand Transit rides?

Passengers in 12 designated zones can hail a bus through our On-Request service and travel within a specific geographic area.

This service is a great way for Winnipeggers to try transit – and one many people don’t know about.

On-Request is available to both transit riders and Winnipeg Transit Plus customers looking to travel quickly within their community.

On-Request buses do not follow a fixed route. Instead, we group trip requests in real time, allowing the service to adjust based on where customers need to travel within the designated area. Riders often use On-Request to:

  • Connect to major transit routes
  • Visit local shopping centres
  • Access community destinations

Where is On-Request available?

Our zones include:

On-Request buses operate when demand for fixed-route transit is lower. This allows us to redeploy buses directly to the passengers who need them. This provides better service at a similar cost to our standard service.

On-Request is available after midnight for all but two zones. Hours differ from zone to zone, so please check our On-Request operating hours before heading out.

Booking a trip with On-Request

Using On-Request is easy.

This service is great for spontaneous, same-day travel. When you're ready to go, simply request your trip and we'll provide directions to your pick-up location and an estimated pick-up time. You can make your request by:

  1. Using the Winnipeg Transit+ On-Request app (available on the App Store for iPhones and Google Play for Androids
  2. Booking online
  3. Contacting 311 and following the prompts to book On-Request Transit

After making your request, you’ll get step-by-step instructions for where and when to meet the bus. Usually, it’s at the nearest bus stop within about 20 minutes. You’ll also find out where it will drop you off and get an estimate for the total trip time.

Wait times will vary depending on the number of customers booking rides and the location of the On-Request buses, as well as traffic and weather conditions. We expect wait times to be between 10 and 20 minutes.

Passengers who use the Winnipeg Transit+ On-Request app to book their trips will be able to track their bus in real time.
