The Taché Promenade and Belvédère Saint-Boniface allows people to take in spectacular views of Winnipeg’s skyline. The recently completed project also received the 2019 Team Achievement Award from Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba.

The association’s award recognizes engineering or geoscience excellence in, and major contributions to, the concept, design, and implementation of an engineering or geoscience project in the province.

The project involved collaborative work from the City’s Public Works and Planning, Property & Development departments with the consulting team led by Trek Geotechnical with support from Morrison Hershfield and HTFC.

Completed in June 2019, it features a widened promenade-style active transportation path along the west side of Taché as well as a 100 metre long walkway suspended in the river forest canopy, also known as the Belvédère Saint-Boniface. It was designed using the City’s Accessibility Design Standards to ensure it’s accessible to people of all abilities.

“Taché Avenue is part of the city’s primary diking system to defend against flooding along the Red River and the work done through this project helps strengthen that system,” he said.

Funding from this project came from the City, Provincial, and Federal Government as well as The Winnipeg Foundation and the Winnipeg Arts Council.
