The Welcoming Winnipeg Committee of Community Members reviews requests and provides input and advice on creating new, adding to or removing/renaming historical markers and place names, like this park.

Welcoming Winnipeg is about reconciling our history. It helps reflect all perspectives in our city’s landscape.

We are looking for qualified people to join the Welcoming Winnipeg Committee of Community Members.

The committee reviews requests and provides recommendations to City Council for consideration.

These requests include creating new, adding to, or removing/renaming historical markers and place names. The goal is to resolve the absence of Indigenous perspectives, experiences, and contributions in the stories remembered and commemorated.

Qualifications

We are looking for people who have done professional or community work with an:

  • Expertise in Winnipeg’s history
  • Interest in the ongoing impacts of colonization

It is also valuable if you have skills, education, and experience in:

  • Research
  • Project evaluation
  • Policy analysis

These skills would allow you to contribute to committee recommendations and influence change.
