We’re working to make it more convenient to access free menstrual products in Winnipeg.
We recently partnered with Period Pin, an online tool that helps connect people who menstruate with the free products they need when they need them.
In September of 2022, we started a year-long pilot project where we provided the products in eight civic facilities.
“The pilot project was created because we know how difficult it can be for people who can’t access the products they need when they need them,” said Jennifer Hansell, Superintendent of Planning and Portfolio Management for the Municipal Accommodations Division.
Council approved the permanent expansion of the pilot project earlier this year.
Hansell hopes the partnership with Period Pin will mean more people will know to inquire about the products when they’re visiting select City facilities.
“Period poverty shouldn’t put anyone at a disadvantage in their daily life. We’re happy to ensure residents have access to pads and tampons where and when they need them,” she said.
