Holiday season operating hours for City of Winnipeg facilities and services

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg would like to wish you and your family all the best this holiday season.

All civic offices are closed at 12 p.m. noon on Thursday, December 24, and closed all day on Friday, December 25, and Monday, December 28, 2015.

Civic offices will also be closed on Friday, January 1, 2016.

For information on City services during the holidays, please contact 311 by phone at 311, or by email at . City of Winnipeg 311 services are always available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including throughout the holiday season.

Recycling/Garbage Collection

All customers (single-family homes, apartments, businesses)

  • Recycling and garbage collection service as usual on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
  • No recycling and garbage collection service on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Single-family homes - Adjusted collection schedule

For customers that normally have collection on Friday, please put your recycling and garbage carts out one day later during the weeks with Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Let's Chip In Christmas Tree Recycling Depots

Residents can recycle their real Christmas trees by dropping them off at any of the 11 Let's Chip In depots, open from December 27, 2015, to January 20, 2016. Please remove all plastic tree bags, tinsel, decorations, and tree stands. Free wood chips will be available at all depots in early January (while quantities last). Please bring your own container.

Trees placed beside recycling or garbage carts will not be collected.

Winnipeg Transit

Winnipeg Transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule on:

  • Friday, December 25
  • Saturday, December 26
  • Friday, January 1

Take a Free Ride New Year's Eve and Celebrate Safely!

Take a free bus ride this New Year's Eve starting at 7:00 p.m. until end of service. The last buses leave downtown at approximately 1:38 a.m. The free ride offer applies to all Regular and Handi-Transit and is sponsored by Manitoba Public Insurance. Cemetery grounds at Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona Cemeteries will be open for visitation from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day throughout the holiday season, weather permitting.

Cemetery offices will be open until 4:30 p.m. on December 24 and closed on December 25, December 26, December 28, and January 1.
