Winnipeg, MB - As part of welcoming newcomers to our city, Winnipeg Animal Services pups were out and about this week making new friends, getting belly rubs, and waiting patiently as Animal Services staff talked about responsible pet ownership!
Animal Services is proud to work with The Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba Inc. (IRCOM) to introduce new immigrants to dogs as companion animals. Animal Services visited the IRCOM class on March 16, introduced Melo , and chatted with the class about pet behaviour and responsible pet ownership. The class , which included new immigrants from Somalia, Iraq, the Congo, and more, had fun playing with Melo .
IRCOM strives to empower newcomer families to integrate into the wider community through affordable transitional housing, programs, and services. IRCOM helps new community members to gain the tools they need to integrate and settle into Winnipeg life.
