Winnipeg, MB - At the halfway mark of Mayor Bowman’s First 100 Days in Office, he today announces that more than half of those 19 early-day commitments are complete.
"I’m very pleased with the progress we’ve made to date - not only keeping on schedule with the commitments I made for my first 100 days in office, but in the remarkable amount of work City Council and the Public Service have accomplished together since October 22nd,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “I’m honoured to be a part of such a dedicated City Council and I look forward to working with them to continue addressing the priorities of Winnipeggers going forward.”
At the halfway point of his First 100 Days in Office, Mayor Bowman has completed 11 of the 19 promises, including:
- Meet with Mayor Sam Katz to transition into office;
- Be sworn in as Mayor;
- Meet with acting CAO and senior staff for a briefing on the State of the City and budget,
- Elect and appoint members of EPC and special committees, including the CAO hiring committee;
- Meet with the Acting CAO and department heads regarding implementing 2 per cent efficiencies and savings;
- Meet with Premier Selinger, Minister Chief, and senior federal minister regarding Winnipeg’s fair share, and BuildWINNIPEG partnership;
- Meet with Tourism Winnipeg and stakeholders to discuss making Tourism Winnipeg an independent body;
- Introduce motions at City Council, including amending The Councillors’ Representation Allowance (CRA) Fund, adopting the United Way’s Homelessness Reduction Strategy, and abolishing the Office of Policy Development and Communication;
- Begin visiting other cities across Canada to promote Winnipeg,
- Conduct a mandatory OurWinnipeg review session for Councillors, senior administration, and planning staff;
- And conduct a follow-up meeting with Premier and Minister Chief regarding the BuildWINNIPEG partnership and the City’s fair share of PST.
One commitment unable to be completed in those first 100 days is the hiring of the Chief Administrative Officer. However, the national search has commenced and evaluations will begin as soon as the posting closes at the end of December, with an anticipated hiring date of March 2015.
