City of Winnipeg invites all citizens to bring their biggest, best ideas to the budget consultation process

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is undertaking a new way to engage both internal and external stakeholders and citizens in a conversation and consultation process for the 2015-17 Operating Budget and the 2015-2020 Capital Budget.

The City wants to engage its citizens, City Councillors and the Public Service in together determining the way forward. This means aligning City budgets and spending priorities with citizen values and needs while also asking participants to grapple with the costs, consequences and choices necessary to develop fiscally responsible options and solutions.

Engagement will focus on citizens’ values, ideas and priorities related to City services. This input will be provided to City Council and the Public Service to provide direction and guidance in the development of budgets. A final report will be provided late 2014 to City Council for consideration in making decisions on the City budget.

There are multiple opportunities to get involved. Find the right one for you!

  • Participate in OUR BUDGET, FORWARD Online. Access this online tool today to share ideas and generate feedback on key project discussion questions.
  • Download the Our Budget, Forward Discussion Guide with key discussion questions to answer and submit back.
  • The Budget Facts Booklet will provide citizens with the relevant background information they will need to respond.
  • Host your own Budget Talk. This is an opportunity to have your own budget conversation around some key questions. Download the “Host Your Own BUDGET TALK Kit” to get started.
  • Learn to Host Your Own BUDGET TALK. If you’re looking for more support, we’re hosting training events just for this purpose.
    May 21 at the Millennium Library:
    • 1st session - 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
    • 2nd session - 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • Watch for our Talk Truck. Visit our roving Talk Truck that will be visiting various events throughout the City and have a chance to provide your thoughts and ideas.
