Winnipeg, MB - Summer isn't over yet! Officially opened today by the Honourable Erna Braun, Minister for Labour and Immigration and MLA for Rossmere and Jeff Browaty, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Protection and Community Services and City Councillor for North Kildonan, the Gateway Recreation Centre spray pad is a great way for the community to cool off and enjoy the last weeks of summer.
âÅThese types of local projects improve the quality of life for all Manitobansâ, Minister Braun said, âÅOur commitment to fund recreational activities and community based projects are an important part of our goal to make Manitoba a healthier, safer, and more enjoyable place to raise a familyâ.
âÅThe Gateway Recreation Centre is an important gathering place for North Kildonan residents, and the new spray pad is a great addition to the excellent programming already offered at the facility,â said Councillor Browaty. âÅI look forward to seeing this spray pad being well-used by the community in the years to come.â
Officially announced in August 2013, the Gateway Recreation Centre spray pad initiative is funded by the Province of Manitoba under the Building Manitoba Fund, in which the Province provided funding of up to $1.5 million for this spray pad and two others - Waverley Heights Community Centre and Lindsay Wilson Park in Island Lakes. The City of Winnipeg funds the operating costs of each new facility. Construction to the spray pad began in the spring of 2014.
The Gateway spray pad features a local hockey theme, including hockey stick sprayers and a pole sprayer with a jet on top of it.
