Voters advised to vote early on Election Day

Released: October 21, 2014 at 12:03 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Tomorrow is Election Day for Mayor, Councillors and School Trustees in the City of Winnipeg. Polls are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Advance voting locations across the City saw 30,619 eligible voters cast their ballot early, an increase of almost 1,500 from the 2010 election, which had 29,216 early ballots cast.

“There is every indication that the turnout for this election will be higher than 2010,” said Marc Lemoine, Senior Election Official.

In 2010, over 200,000 eligible voters cast their ballot at advance polls and on Election Day. That total represents 47.1 per cent of voters who were eligible to vote.

“We want to advise eligible voters that they should vote as early as possible on Election Day to avoid lineups which may occur later in the day,” said Lemoine.

Eligible voters can only vote at their designated location as identified on their Voters Notice. Eligible voters who did not receive a Voters Notice can vote at their designated voting place and take an Oath prior to voting. All voters are required to present identification.

Information on where to vote on Election Day is available by contacting the City of Winnipeg Contact Centre at 311, by visiting the City of Winnipeg’s 2014 Election website and selecting “Where Do I Vote?” or by downloading the Election mobile app.
