Outreach provider supports people experiencing homelessness and living in encampments

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeggers at risk of or experiencing homelessness will continue to be supported by Main Street Project on the frontlines.

Main Street Project is the successful proponent for our 24/7 mobile outreach services contract. The City has provided funding to Main Street Project for 24/7 mobile outreach services since April 2021. The organization will continue this work on behalf of the City, providing supports both east and west of the Red River.

Typical outreach services include:

  • Conducting well-being checks
  • Transporting individuals to housing and emergency shelters
  • Distributing wellness supplies, such as warm clothing, blankets, and water

The new contract continues that work with additional service requirements, including:

  • Ensuring compliance with the City’s encampment policy
  • Providing data reports on services, including quarterly point-in-time counts of the two service regions

Frequent reporting and point-in-time counts help our planning efforts and support our work with the Province on the Your Way Home strategy. As our mobile outreach service provider, Main Street Project is able to provide frontline insight on homelessness in Winnipeg at any given time. Regular communication also helps us carry out our encampment protocol more efficiently.

Details on our encampment protocol can be found at winnipeg.ca/encampments.
