Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Powers Street and Burrows Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – Overnight, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires.

Powers Street

At 8:11 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey house in the 200 block of Powers Street.

At the scene crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Firefighters attacked the fire from outside the house, until they could switch to an offensive, interior fire attack. Firefighters declared the fire under control at 8:56 p.m.

Firefighters searched the building to ensure there was no one inside. No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available. This house had fire damage from a fire in September 2023.

Burrows Avenue

At 11:46 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in an unoccupied bungalow in the 1000 block of Burrows Avenue.

When crews arrived, they saw heavy flames and smoke coming from the house. Firefighters used a defensive attack, fighting the fire from the outside until it was safe to switch to an offensive interior attack. At the same time, crews searched the building to ensure there was no one inside. Firefighters declared the fire under control at 12:28 a.m.

No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Vacant Buildings

Call 9-1-1 if you see someone actively entering a vacant building or removing boards from a building’s windows or doors.

If you notice boarded windows or doors that have been breached, but you do not see someone actively entering or trying to enter the building, report the incident to 311 by phone or online.
