Statement from Mayor Bowman on the Tina Fontaine investigation

Released: December 11, 2015 at 3:15 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - I would like to thank the Winnipeg Police Service for its ongoing commitment and hard work investigating the tragic death of Tina Fontaine.

This has been an incredibly difficult and emotional time for Tina's family, and for the entire communities of Sagkeeng First Nation and Winnipeg.

I cannot begin to imagine the pain Tina's loved ones have been feeling, and must be feeling at this time. After more than a year of investigation, I hope that this arrest can bring them some long awaited peace.

This has been a long and complex investigation. Winnipeg Police have acknowledged the important role the public has played in their investigation, and I would also like to thank those who came forward with information enabling our police service to make this arrest.
