Voter eligibility for the 2014 City of Winnipeg Election

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is reminding citizens about the requirements to be eligible to vote for Mayor and Councillor in the upcoming 2014 City of Winnipeg Election which will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014.

Subject to Sections 21 and 22 of The Municipal Councils and School Boards Elections Act, a person is eligible to vote in the election, if they meet all of the following criteria:

  • A Canadian Citizen
  • 18 years of age or older on Election Day
  • An actual resident or property owner in the City of Winnipeg for a period of at least 6 months (since April 22, 2014).

Citizens are urged to contact 311 to ensure they are on the voters list if they meet eligibility requirements. It is important to have your name on the voters list as a voters notice will be mailed out to each eligible voter identifying their voting place, voting station and hours of voting. 311 will also provide information on how to update your info, if required, as well as information on how to have your name obscured from the voters list. The Election Office will accept these requests until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2014.
