Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg has 12 pothole patching crews on Winnipeg streets this week. Hand patching crews have been out since the February long weekend repairing potholes and efforts were ramped up this week to address potholes in a shorter timeframe.
Hand patching is still the method being used by City crews to fix potholes as colder temperatures have required crews to use a cold mix material applied by hand. When temperatures allow, pothole patching machines (Road Patchers) will also be used, which will provide a more timely and durable repair. At this time, the City is experiencing an average amount of potholes.
“We are working to repair as many potholes as we can in the shortest timeframe possible,” said Jim Berezowsky, Manager of Streets Maintenance. “Successive days of warmer temperatures will eventually enable us to put our full complement of pothole patching machines to work.”
Citizens are encouraged to report pothole locations by contacting 311, open 24 hours every day, by phone at 311, using the 311 app, or by email at 311@winnipeg.ca.
The City would like to remind motorists and pedestrians to use caution around crews and heavy equipment operating throughout the city over the coming weeks.
