Downtown lane closures coming to accommodate trio of special events

Winnipeg, MB-  Traffic will be disrupted on some Downtown streets this week and weekend to accommodate three late-summer festivals.

Weekender Street Festival

The Weekender Street Festival will impact traffic on Smith Street and Garry Street from 5:30 p.m. today to 7 a.m. Monday, September 14:

  • On Garry Street:
    • Traffic will be two-way from Portage Avenue to the parkade at 295 Garry Street
    • Traffic will be fully closed between 295 Garry Street and St. Mary Avenue
  • On Smith Street:
  • Traffic will be two-way from Portage Avenue and the first back lane south of Portage Avenue
  • Traffic will be fully closed between St. Mary Avenue and the first back lane south of Portage Avenue

Transit routes F8 and D13 will be rerouted to accommodate the closures.

Chinatown Street Festival

The Chinatown Street Festival will affect traffic on King Street and James Street this weekend.

  • James Avenue will be closed from 6 p.m. tomorrow (September 11) to 7 a.m. Monday, September 14.

  • King Street will close fully between James Avenue and Rupert Avenue Saturday and Sunday.

Winnipeg 10 & 10

Memorial Avenue between Broadway and York will close fully from 8 a.m. Saturday, September 12 to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 13.

The full race route is available online. We encourage drivers to check the Lane Closures map and plan ahead.

Sunday only:

  • Eastbound Broadway will be closed between Osborne St North and Edmonton St.
  • Two lanes will be closed on most major routes along the route
  • Many local streets will be fully closed

For all closures: drivers should plan ahead, use alternate routes, and expect delays.
