Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Elgin Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:37 a.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire in a high-rise apartment building in the 500 block of Elgin Avenue.

Due to the high life safety risks associated with a high-rise building fire, the 911 communications centre dispatched additional crews to the scene.

At the scene, crews found smoke coming from the building. Firefighters attacked the fire and declared it under control at 5:17 a.m.

Paramedics assessed two patients and transported one of the patients to hospital in unstable condition.

The fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
