Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Stella Avenue, Simcoe Street and Main Street

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to four structure fires last evening.

Stella Avenue fire 1

At 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey house in the 800 block of Stella Avenue.

When crews arrived, they found heavy black smoke and flames coming from the house. Firefighters launched an interior attack and brought the fire under control at 6:21 p.m.

Crews searched the home and found no occupants inside.

Paramedics assessed one firefighter at the scene and transported them to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not yet available.

Main Street fire

At 5:38 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, single-storey commercial building in the 100 block of Main Street.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the building. Firefighters launched a fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 9:40 p.m. Crews remained on scene throughout the night working to extinguish hotspots.

Crews searched the building and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.

The building was previously damaged by a fire in October 2025. Damage estimates are not available, but the building sustained significant fire, smoke and water damage.

The fire is under investigation.

Simcoe Street fire

At 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey residence in the 200 block of Simcoe Street.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke coming from the house.

Firefighters entered and launched an interior fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 7:14 p.m.

All occupants had safely evacuated before crews arrived.

Paramedics assessed one firefighter at the scene, but the firefighter did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not yet available.

Stella Avenue fire 2

At 10:51 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow in the 700 block of Stella Avenue.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the house. They launched an interior fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 11:16 p.m.

Paramedics assessed one resident at the scene. The individual did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The City’s Emergency Social Services team was dispatched to the scene to provide temporary support to displaced residents.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
