Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to ammonia leak on Burnell Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:13 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a suspected ammonia leak at a commercial property in the 200 block of Burnell Street.

Upon arrival, crews detected elevated ammonia levels inside the building. As a precaution, firefighters evacuated several neighbouring properties.

The WFPS Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Team was dispatched to the scene. Using specialized equipment, team members entered the building and conducted a search for occupants. No occupants were found.

The leak was stopped and firefighters ventilated the building to remove the remaining ammonia. Once the area was deemed safe, evacuated occupants were permitted to return to their buildings.

No injuries were reported.
