Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to two early morning fires.
William Newton Avenue fire
At 3:02 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 300 block of William Newton Avenue.
When crews arrived on scene, there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Firefighters initially launched an exterior fire attack. Once conditions improved, they were able to enter the house and transition to an interior fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 4:25 a.m.
The WFPS drone was deployed to provide aerial imagery, which helped crews identify hotspots and support search efforts inside the home. No occupants were located during the search.
No injuries were reported.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
Messier Street fire
At 6:10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, firefighters observed smoke while returning from a call. They investigated and located a significant fire involving shipping containers and industrial equipment in the 500 block of Messier Street.
Firefighters initiated a fire attack and brought the fire under control at 6:47 a.m.
Due to the fire’s proximity to nearby rail lines, train traffic was temporarily halted as a precaution.
No injuries were reported.
The fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
