Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires last evening.
Alfred Avenue fire
At 10:01 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey house in the 900 block of Alfred Avenue.
When crews arrived on scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the residence. They launched an interior fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 11:05 p.m. Crews rotated throughout the incident to ensure they could warm up and take breaks from the cold.
Firefighters searched the house and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
Mountain Avenue fire
At 4:42 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in two-and-a-half storey house in the 500 block of Mountain Avenue.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke and flames coming from the house. Firefighters entered the house and attacked the fire from inside. The fire was declared under control at 6:15 p.m. Crews rotated throughout the incident to ensure they could warm up and take breaks from the cold.
All occupants had safely evacuated the house before crews arrived. Firefighters later found one cat deceased inside.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
