Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Portage Avenue

Released: December 16, 2025 at 8:30 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:23 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a structure fire in a vacant commercial building in the 900 block of Portage Avenue.  

At the scene, crews found heavy flames and smoke coming from the building. Firefighters used a defensive exterior attack until it was safe to enter and fight the fire from the inside. 

Firefighters declared the fire under control at 6:14 a.m. No injuries were reported.  

The fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
