Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Avaco Drive and Smith Street

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two overnight structure fires.

Avaco Drive

At 1:27 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow in the 0 to 100 block of Avaco Drive.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke coming from the house. Firefighters entered and launched an interior fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 3:26 a.m.

All occupants self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. The house was equipped with a working smoke alarm. No injuries were reported.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction.

Damage estimates are not available.

Smith Street fire

At 5:57 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire at a commercial building in the 100 block of Smith Street.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke and flames on the exterior of the building. They quickly worked to extinguish the fire, keeping it from extending into the interior of the building. It was declared extinguished at 6:39 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
