Winnipeg, MB – Several Downtown streets are closing this week and weekend to accommodate Grey Cup festivities and the annual Manitoba Hydro Santa Claus Parade.
Grey Cup Festival
Festival closures are already underway:
- Eastbound York Avenue is closed between Edmonton Street and Carlton Street through Sunday, November 16 at 9 a.m.
- Young Street is closed from Portage Avenue to Ellice Avenue through Sunday, November 16 at 9 a.m.
- Spence Street is closed from Portage Avenue to Ellice Avenue through Monday, November 17 at 8 a.m.
Santa Claus Parade
Portage Avenue will close in both directions from St. Mary Avenue to Main Street at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15. Northbound/southbound cross streets within this area will have limited access to Portage Avenue.
The following closures will also begin at 11 a.m.:
- Southbound Main Street (McDermot Avenue to York Avenue)
- Portage Avenue East (Westbrook to Main Street)
- Westbound St. Mary Avenue (Edmonton Street to Memorial)
- Eastbound York Avenue (Colony Street to Memorial)
- Osborne Street North / Memorial Boulevard / Colony Street (Broadway to Ellice Avenue)
There will be limited parking lot access and no through traffic at Portage on the following streets from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.:
- Fort Street (Graham Avenue to Portage Avenue)
- Garry Street (Ellice Avenue to Portage Avenue)
- Smith Street (St. Mary Avenue to Portage Avenue)
- Donald Street (Ellice Avenue to Portage Avenue)
- Hargrave Street (St. Mary Avenue to Portage Avenue)
- Carlton Street (Ellice Avenue to Portage Avenue)
- Edmonton Street (St. Mary Avenue to Portage Avenue)
- Kennedy Street (Portage Avenue to Graham Avenue)
- Vaughan Street (Portage Avenue to Graham Avenue)
Northbound Main Street will close from William Stephenson Way to Portage Avenue for a short period late in the afternoon to allow the parade to cross Main Street on Portage Avenue.
All other closures will be lifted by 10 p.m.

There will be single-lane closures on several other streets over the weekend. Parking will also be affected throughout the area.
