Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires last evening.

Qu’Appelle Avenue fire

At 6:05 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the WFPS responded to a monitored fire alarm in a three-storey apartment building.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke coming from the structure. They entered and launched an interior fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 6:35 p.m.

Firefighters assisted several residents in evacuating. Three individuals were assessed by paramedics. Two were transported to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Firefighters also located and brought several cats to safety.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was activated, providing temporary support for displaced residents.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical appliance. Damage estimates are not available.

Keewatin Street fire

At 4:43 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant warehouse in the 600 block of Keewatin Street.

Upon arrival on scene, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. They launched an offensive fire attack, but due to deteriorating conditions, they were forced to exit the structure and transition to a defensive fire attack. The fire was declared extinguished at 7:41 p.m.

Crews searched the structure and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
