Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Elgin Avenue West

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:41 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey house in the 1900 block of Elgin Avenue West.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. Firefighters initially entered the house to fight the fire but were forced to exit due to deteriorating fire conditions. They transitioned to an exterior fire attack, using an aerial ladder and handlines to apply water to the fire. The fire was declared under control at 2:03 p.m.

There were no people in the house at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was activated, providing temporary support for displaced residents.

The house sustained significant smoke, fire and water damage. Damage estimates are not available. 

The fire is under investigation.
