Winnipeg, MB – At 6:27 p.m. on Monday, May 26, 2025, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a monitored alarm in a 12-storey apartment building in the 100 block of Young Street. Additional 9-1-1 reports indicated there may be individuals trapped in one of the suites.
Due to the potential scale of the incident, a second alarm was declared, dispatching more crews to the scene.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke in the building. They determined the residents who reported being trapped had safely self-evacuated.
Firefighters located a fire in one of the suites. They quickly brought the fire under control, keeping the fire and damages contained to the suite where the fire originated.
No injuries were reported. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team responded to the scene to provide temporary support to affected residents.
The fire remains under investigation, but preliminary observations suggest it was accidental. Damage estimates are not available.
