Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Valour Road

Released: April 22, 2025 at 9:15 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB At 8:47 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a house in the 700 block of Valour Road.

At the scene, firefighters saw flames and smoke coming from the house. Firefighters attacked the fire, declaring it under control at 9:03 p.m.

Everyone got out of the house before crews arrived. No injuries were reported. No damage estimates are available.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental and related to cooking.

To avoid a cooking fire, follow these tips:

    • Stay in the kitchen while you cook. Set a timer that will remind you when the food is ready so you don’t forget about it.
    • Keep oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging, curtains, and towels away from the stovetop.
    • Heat oil slowly. If cooking oil catches on fire and the fire is small and manageable, put on oven mitts, put the lid on the pan and turn the burner off. You can also use a fire extinguisher. Never move a pan that is on fire.
    • Never put water on an oil fire.
