Winnipeg, MB – At 1:30 p.m. on February 12, 2025, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 300 block of St John’s Avenue.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke coming from the structure. Firefighters launched an interior fire attack, declaring the fire extinguished at 2:24 p.m.
All occupants of the residence self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. Two individuals were assessed by on-scene paramedics and transported to hospital in stable condition. One cat was located deceased in the house.
The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team responded to provide temporary support to the displaced residents.
Damage estimates are not available.
Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction.
Residents should use caution in the area, as water used to fight the fire froze and created slippery conditions. City of Winnipeg crews will be monitoring conditions and applying sand and de-icing agents to roadways and sidewalks as required to improve traction.
