Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Young Street and Henderson Highway

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires since last night.

Young Street

At 11:26 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant house in the 500 block of Young Street.

Firefighters attacked the fire from inside the house, declaring the fire under control at 12:54 a.m.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Henderson Highway

At 9:37 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2024, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 400 block of Henderson Highway.

At the scene, firefighters attacked the fire from inside the building, declaring the fire under control at 10:00 a.m. Paramedics assessed two patients and no transportation to hospital was required.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team responded to the scene to provide temporary support to affect residents.

Residents should use caution in the area, as water used to fight the fire has frozen and created slippery conditions. City of Winnipeg crews will be monitoring conditions and applying sand and de-icing agents to roadways and sidewalks as required to improve traction.
