Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Pritchard Avenue and Agnes Street

Released: December 27, 2024 at 8:15 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – On the evening of Thursday, December 26, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires.

Pritchard Avenue

At 6:07 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2024, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant and boarded house in the 400 block of Pritchard Avenue.

At the scene, crews saw heavy flames and smoke coming from the house. Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside, as the structure was not safe enough to enter. Crews worked to extinguish the fire overnight.

WFPS is planning an emergency demolition for this house today in order to ensure all fire spots are extinguished and because the structural integrity of the house is compromised.

No injuries were reported. One neighbouring house was temporarily evacuated as a precaution. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team responded to the scene to provide support for evacuated residents.

WFPS crews responded to a fire at this house in June 2024.

The fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Agnes Street

At 6:43 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2024, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a house in the 400 block of Agnes Street.

Firefighters attacked the fire from inside the house, declaring the fire under control at 7:48 p.m. Paramedics transported two patients to hospital in stable condition. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team responded to the scene to provide support for affected residents.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
