Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Selkirk Avenue

Winnipeg, MBAt 10:53 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half storey duplex in the 1400 block of Selkirk Avenue.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence. Some occupants self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. They reported that one individual may still be in the house.

Firefighters entered the house, launching an interior fire attack. They located one individual and brought them out. The individual was treated by on-scene paramedics and transported to hospital in critical condition. They were later pronounced deceased.

One other resident was assessed and transported to hospital in unstable condition. One cat was located deceased.

The fire was declared under control at 12:15 a.m.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
