Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Flora Avenue and Magnus Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two early morning structure fires.

Magnus Avenue

At 4:56 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2024, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire involving neighbouring two-storey houses in the 200 block of Magnus Avenue – one vacant and one occupied.

Upon arrival at the scene, crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the vacant house with fire extending to the neighbouring house. Firefighters launched an offensive fire attack in both houses, declaring the fire under control at 5:57 a.m.

Crews searched both structures and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.

Anyone who sees someone actively entering a vacant building, or removing boards from windows or doors from a building, should call 911 to report the incident immediately.

If you notice boarded windows or doors that have been breached, but you do not see someone actively entering or trying to enter the building, report the incident to 311 by phone or online.

 

Flora Avenue

At 3:39 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2024, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in an unoccupied, two-storey house in the 300 block of Flora Avenue.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the house. The initially launched an exterior fire attack. Once conditions improved, they transitioned to an interior fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 4:19 a.m.

Crews searched the house and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
