Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Alfred Avenue

Released: November 16, 2024 at 5:50 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:47 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 400 block of Alfred Avenue.

There was smoke coming from the structure when firefighters arrived on scene. They launched a fire attack from the outside, as it wasn’t safe to enter the house.

Once conditions improved, firefighters were able to move inside to finish putting the fire out. It was declared under control at 2:18 p.m.

Crews searched the house and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The structure suffered fire, smoke and water damage. It was also damaged by a fire in July 2024. Damage estimates are not available.

WFPS’ Accelerant Detection K9 assisted fire investigators at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Anyone who sees someone actively entering a vacant building, or removing boards from windows or doors from a building, should call 911 to report the incident immediately.

If you notice boarded windows or doors that have been breached, but you do not see someone actively entering or trying to enter the building, report the incident to 311 by phone or online.
